Has the proliferation of learning short-cuts...?

led to the dumbing-down of literate America? Do they still teach the clics at the secondary level? What about long division? I never hear of a college grad satisfied with a mundane Lib Arts degree; finance, I/T etc. seem to be the degree option these days.
