Why does my philips pfl5522d 32inch lcd tv display a 1080p signal whilst connected to my PS3?

philips says that the 32pfl552d/05 is only capable of resolutions up to 1080i. I've set my PS3 to display the highest resolution possible when playing a disc and whatever that resolution is, a small display icon appears at the top of the screen displaying the current resolution. frequently it has said 1080p. for example the ps3 is set to upscale all dvds to the highest resolution the tv is capable of. and it always shows as 1080p on the little tv display. the same with ps3 games that are 1080p capable. does this mean my tv is actually displaying 1080p?
