Do i really need the egr valve?

I have a 67' mustang with a 5.0 in it. i just got a new intake and Throttle body with egr spacer. im thinking about removing the egr spacer which will eliminate the egr valve also, so i was wondering if i really need it? remember i don't have to do smog since my car is pre smog years. Thanks
