Does growing up with internet lingo/slang affect a child's scholastic spelling capabilities?

well like the first answer said, it depends. Im fourteen and have used a computer since i was six years old (or around that age) im very good at spelling and english in general so it hasn't affected me. I however have friends who use abbreviations without knowing they are using them in school work and things like that.
